Fun Activities In Elementary Schools

Education is vital for a developing mind. Covering a core set of subjects teaches kids a balance of logical, critical and creative thinking. Their understanding of the world begins in the classroom and continues with them throughout their lives. One of the first opportunities children have to translate this intelligence into practical skills is through extra curricular. It’s here that children can independently apply their talents, to see how they can actively pursue new ways to grow and socialize, using what they’ve gained from their coursework along the way.

Sports

Many San Dimas elementary schools offer athletics to kids that range from football to swimming to gymnastics. Aside from the benefits of exercise on the development of the mind and body, sports offer a chance for children to socialize and build relationships outside of the classroom. And whether they’re playing a team sport or competing individually, kids learn how to apply critical thinking skills through strategy. A competitive sport can also act as an early example of the virtues of sportsmanship like honesty, integrity and fairness.

Science Fairs

Everyone remembers working on a science fair project as a child. Paper-mache volcanoes that spew little streams of lava or a small solar system made of foam balls. Science fairs give kids hands-on experience with math, science and engineering where they can bring subject to life through research and experimentation. Plus, it’s a great way for parents to get involved with their child’s education first-hand by either sharing what they know or helping in small ways to complete a project’s creation.

Music

Sometimes self-discovery is as important as scientific discovery. Such is the case with great musical achievements. Children who learn creative expression through music at an early age have been shown to have increased academic performances. Their brains develop a large set of neurons that have to do with fine motor skills and sound discrimination. Musically educated children also tend to learn a language quickly because of the similarities of language and music. And they may even see improvements in their math tests.

Drama

Many elementary schools provide performing arts programs where kids can explore their inner entertainer and find their voice. By giving them a healthy environment to learn the craft, students develop confidence performing on stage in front of an audience. Kids get the chance to make artistic choices, explore creative ideas, team up with others and express themselves through dialogue and stage movement.

Arrow Montessori school is a respected elementary school in San Dimas. Arrow offers an extensive range of programs including daycare for infants, junior high school programs, preschool-kindergarten, after school day care and more.
